I would like to begin by asking you a stupid question. Are you on social media? Most will reply “yes of course.” The very, very small minority of you that said “No.” – may still be in for a surprise. For example. You may have an account with a company that you didn’t consider as social media. For example, your YouTube account, that you had created automatically when you signed in to Google. Or SoundCloud. Or your Yahoo email. Furthermore, even if you still answer ‘No, I have no social media accounts.’ I can still tell you that you most likely have a social media presence. Your family and friends are tagging you in photos, mentioning your work in Twitter, or publishing your art on their forums.
Bearing this in mind, I would like to ask you another question: Do you think Social Media Campaigns can bring in success for your business?” You’re all probably thinking “Yes – obviously!”
Before I continue, I would like to quote Neil Patel, one of the worlds most recognised marketing leaders, as to what Social Media Marketing is: “Social media marketing is the process of creating content that you have tailored to the context of each individual social media platform in order to drive user engagement and sharing.” What I like about this definition is the honesty and integrity. Your content should have value. The result of that value could then be; clicking on to a link to your site, or pressing the ‘Buy’ button, or the readers sharing to their friends and family.
There are about 200 different social media platforms. However, I would suggest sticking to the main ones. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. These have been around for a while, and are most likely to be around for years to come. They are also the most widely used.
If your thinking? “I don’t have the time or money” Then I have 2 answers for you. 1. You can’t afford not to. Even if you just want to rely on your website, both Google and Bing will look at your social media presence, and then make a judgement about ranking your site. 2. I’ll show you a way of using no money or very little money and time for your social media campaigns.
Firstly, set up the account (obviously). This will be the most time-consuming bit. Make sure that you answer all the questions as honestly and thoroughly as you can. If you don’t, you will get penalised.
Secondly, make sure that all your banners and icons, are the same across all platforms. The same logo with the same colours and image must be generic. This is professional, and to do otherwise will instil mistrust from both the social media platforms, and your customers.
Thirdly, make sure your Posts, Tweets, Pins are engaging. Put serious thought in to this. This will make or break your campaign. I recommend putting aside 1 hour a week researching and looking for content. MI usually do this on a Sunday. Then schedule and automate when you want these posted on the platforms. This way, you won’t have to waste anytime during the day and week posting and searching for content. You can instead concentrate on engaging with your customers.
Using software like our social media manager will save time, money (it’s free), and frustration. It will help you find what is trending (what your customers are loving), and automate the posting of your content.
Fourthly, look at the success of your posts. For example, when do posts get most engagement? Is it Monday morning, or Wednesday lunchtime? Again our app will give these stats. When you know when and what is successful, you can then rinse and repeat.
This is the beginning basics of social media. I will create a more in depth article in the very near future. However, do these basics, and you WILL get engagement.
